Why Get Certified?
There is no required license for makeup artistry. There are cosmetology or esthetician licenses. Those are degrees and require over a year of schooling and you learn a variety of things. Makeup artistry is covered slightly in each program but it’s not a specialization.
Benefit of going to a beauty school like IBL Beauty Academy:
- Organized curriculum is approved by a Board of Higher Education as a vocational study and in some cases accredited by an agency. Accreditation is not necessary nor is there an accrediting body for makeup artistry.
- Personalized instruction with feedback
- Close mentorship and guidance
- A makeup artist course teaches the art and science of makeup artistry and because it's so specific, it ensures the student will be very good at that skill
- Professionals receive pro discounts on products
There is a difference between being taught in a school and being a self taught makeup artist. Makeup, being an art, teaches you why and how to combine elements to enhance features on any client. In contrast, self taught makeup artists charge for services but never learn techniques at the extent of a professional-subjects such as hygiene, sanitation, skincare, business practices and more.
Social media offers endless videos and tutorials but the viewer only gets step by step instruction on a "look based" video. There is no teaching on "why." Online videos offer current and popular trends but in the real world, clients can ask you for anything. This is where preparation from a course will help you leave every client satisfied.
